NEWS: PROMONT project presented at the ETAGRO 2025 Conference

PROMONT project was represented at the 18th International Conference of the Hellenic Association of Agricultural Economists (ETAGRO 2025) by Prof. Charisios Achillas, Department of Supply Chain Management, International Hellenic University.

More information about the event is available at: ETAGRO 2025

The presentation  summarizes PROMONT’s findings from the six ADRION pilot areas on which the project is focusing on; Mt. Olympus (Greece), Mt. Baldo (Italy), Mt. Snežnik (Slovenia), Mt. Tomorr (Albania), Mt. Žaba (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Mt. Komovi (Montenegro).

The study explores the impacts of diverse agricultural practices on mountain biodiversity and landscape dynamics, recognizing the complex interplay between land use, ecological processes, and agriculture in these sensitive environments. It introduces PROMONT’s common assessment framework as a practical and adaptable methodology for identifying and evaluating biodiversity pressures specific to mountain regions. This framework offers a harmonized approach that can be replicated in other contexts to support evidence-based planning and policy. Biodiversity conservation remains a central objective of the PROMONT initiative, with six locally tailored biodiversity action plans currently being finalized. These plans reflect the collaborative efforts of project partners and stakeholders, incorporating local knowledge and scientific expertise to promote sustainable land management and biodiversity-friendly practices in mountain areas.

The project demonstrates that aligning agricultural policy with biodiversity goals, by integrating agroecological practices and local knowledge, may strengthen ecological resilience and support the objectives of the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.
